Cookie is co-owned with TRITON SHIH TZU KENNEL of Edwin & Irene Tan-Luy. When she arrived in 2003, I had long retired from handling but the Luys insisted “I had to show Cookie myself or else.” Eventually I relented but not after months of prodding from Mr Luy. The reason he bought her was because he heard so much about my past “glory days” and wanted me to go back into the ring and see it for himself. It wasn’t that simple. First I was the President of the Philippine Canine Club, Inc., so I had to wait till my term ended before I agreed to go back into the ring. Secondly, after a long absence from the ring I had butterflies in my stomach thinking whether I still had it in me. I had to prove to myself that I still had the skill of dog handling. Cookie didn’t disappoint us. In her first show here, she bagged an All-Breed BEST IN SHOW under judge Mrs. Anderson from Australia. The rest is history.
People who watched Cookie during her brief show career of 13 months, remember that pastel colored bitch that looked so “ordinary” until she started to move. Gaiting around the ring, she was poetry in motion, with her high-head carriage and almost flawless movement. She likes to be ahead all the time and would leave me breathless trying to catch up with her. She would literally drag me around the ring and she bagged BEST IN SHOW awards left and right. It was hard not to notice her once she was in motion. She became and still is, the Philippines’ TOP WINNING SHIH TZU
BITCH of all time, winning 16 All-Breed Best in Show awards and 50 other Best in Show placements. Her early retirement from the ring was due to an eye injury which later completely healed, but we cut her down to make way for the new kid in town — CH RICARDO.
